Bird bones break into sharp pieces and can puncture their esophagus, stomach and intestines causing them to die slowly and painfully... I have a whippet/weimeraner mix that ate a turkey leg (raw, got up in the sink when our backs were turned and snatched it) she was pretty sick for a couple of days, but we got lucky.
